does what it says! September 9, 2009 J. Bennett 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
This was recommended by a friend, and we have been very pleased with it - still learning all of the stuff it can do, but I have already printed off trees for the family with different themes - occupation, birthplace etc
And I can use it without going on to the internet, can't be bad.
A solid, worthwhile updgrade July 26, 2009 Mist of Time (UK) 36 out of 37 found this review helpful
I have been using version 3 of this package for a good while, and consider version 4 a worthy upgrade, making a solid, UK aimed package even stronger.
All the plus points from version 3 persist, a good support forum, support for media and solid gedcom support. This has all been supplemented by a new project approach and a focus window that transforms the look and feel remarkably, and would have made it easier for me to learn had version 3 had the same.
It isn't all encompassing, but it is a great tool - try the demo before deciding!
Family Historian February 4, 2010 Mike 1050 (Sussex GB) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This software came out top in the "Which" reviews and I can see why. It's very easy to use, very intuitive, easy to get started. I can definitley recommend this to anyone looking for family tree software.
Best genealogy program available July 7, 2010 Mezentia 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I tried several genealogy programs when I first started researching my family, some free, some I bought. As the scale of my research increased and I started to gather a variety of material of all decriptions, I soon found that each and every one of them seemed to start to impose limits on what I could store, have limited functionality, or simply could not do what I wanted to do. I researched more offerings and finally came across Family Historian V3. I've now upgraded to V4, and am still discovering thing that I can do with the program, whilst it meets with all my other requirements for documenting my history, helping manage multimedia files, creating web pages, and so on. I particularly like the way I can store a single image, but link it in whole or in part to other people in my tree.
Like any piece of software, rewards start to flow when you put time and effort into learning what it can do, and here the very responsive (and free!) help forum is a great assistance. From the help forum you can also get companion programs, queries, and templates to ease data entry from censuses, for example, or to help keep details of military service, plus lots of other stuff to help you get the best from this software. There's also a wish list so that you can put up your own suggestions for improvements or functionality yo would like to see in future releases, and the progam's author is also a frequent contributor.
You don't get multitudes of extra CDs of data that are of no use, but you do get a solid product, with excellent support, using a single and non-propriatory database format. I wouldn't go back to any other program now.
Excllent package April 17, 2010 Mrs. S. Bowhay 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A really good product so far. Inputting details very easy and negotiating around the package great. The home button is really useful when you get lost in your ancestors. Haven't got to the more technical stuff yet, like diagrams and so forth but so far so good.
